Obama Calls Islam Part of America

Well it is no surprise that at Tuesday night's White House Ramadan dinner, Obama took the opportunity to once again push Islam on America.
He continues to talk about mutual respect between Muslims and non-Muslims, can someone please wake me when the Islamic world actually reciprocates?

Sept. 1 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama highlighted the contributions made by Muslims to American culture and the “dynamism and diversity” of the Islamic community.

“Islam, as we know, is part of America,” Obama said at a White House dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. “Together we have a responsibility to foster engagement grounded in mutual interest and mutual respect.”

“That’s one of my fundamental commitments as president both at home and abroad,” Obama said. “That is central to the new beginning that I’ve sought between the United States and Muslims around the world and that is a commitment that we can renew once again during this holy season.”

The dinner, held in the State Dining Room, brought together members of Congress, Cabinet members, diplomatic officials and community leaders from a spectrum of countries and religions. Representatives of Saudi Arabia, Israel, France, Germany and the Palestine Liberation Organization dined on dates, a traditional feature at the Iftar dinner, as well as salad with spiced almonds and chicken with a potato and leek puree.

The White House Celebrates Ramadan

Since Obama has taken office he has basically had two things on his mind. Catering to Islam and spending every penny that he can get his hands on. Both of these actions are being used to take down America as we know it. In regards to him promoting Islam, he has giving an extremely pro-Islamic speech in Cairo, made a Ramadan video in which he stats that Islam is about justice and tolerance, and on Tuesday night the White House will be hosting a Ramadan dinner celebration. The guests include prominent figures from the most oppressive Islamic countries in the world. Obama and his guests will have a lot in common.

President Obama will hold his first White House dinner celebrating the Muslim holiday of Ramadan on Tuesday night as part of his effort to rebuild American relations with the Islamic world after years of strain.

The dinner follows in the tradition of former President George W. Bush, who held eight Ramadan dinners in office to stress that America’s war with violent extremists was not a war with Islam. Despite that outreach, Mr. Bush became a polarizing figure to many Muslims, in large part because of the Iraq war and his staunch support for Israel.

Mr. Obama, while adopting a similar message of respect for the religion of Islam, has none of the baggage of his predecessor and some distinctive advantages that aides hope give him credibility. While the president is a Christian, he comes from a family that includes Muslims, and he spent several years as a child growing up in a Muslim country, Indonesia. His opposition to the Iraq war and his tougher stance on Israel also contrast with Mr. Bush’s policies.

Among those invited to the White House on Tuesday night are the ambassadors from most major Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Turkey, as well as envoys from nations with significant Muslim populations like Israel, Germany, India, Britain and France. Also on the invitation list is the chief of mission of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

Besides the president, the administration will be represented by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services. Senator Richard G. Lugar, Republican of Indiana, and Representatives Andre Carson, a Muslim from Indiana, John Conyers of Michigan, Keith Ellison, a Muslim from Minnesota and Rush Holt of New Jersey, all Democrats, are expected as well.

Among the community members invited are Lt. Cmdr. Abuhena Saifulislam, a Navy officer who has given the prayer at Mr. Bush’s Ramadan dinner, and Jameel Jaffer, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union who has been giving the White House fits with a lawsuit that has forced it to release secret documents on C.I.A. interrogations and detention.

He is also considering forming a new team of interrogators who may use the psychology behind television ads when questioning high profile detainees. U.S. Weighs Special Team of Terrorism Interrogators

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration is considering overhauling the way terror suspects are interrogated by creating a small team of professionals drawn from across the government, according to people familiar with a proposal that will be submitted to the White House.

The new unit, comprising members of spy services and law-enforcement agencies, would be used for so-called high-value detainees, they said. In a switch from Bush-era efforts, it wouldn't be run by the Central Intelligence Agency, though who might be in charge isn't specified.

One of the team's tasks would likely be to devise a new set of interrogation methods, according to one person familiar with the proposal. Those techniques could be drawn from sources ranging from scientific studies to the psychology behind television ads.

The new interrogation team, if adopted, would represent the Obama administration's effort to sweep away a contentious counterterrorism issue that has dogged the CIA and Justice Department since a U.S. network of secret prisons was revealed in 2005.

The team would reduce the CIA's controversial role in interrogations, but the agency remains at odds with Congress. On Friday, the House intelligence committee launched a probe into whether the agency broke the law by withholding information from the panel about a secret plan examining al Qaeda hit teams as well as other matters.

CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the agency will "work closely with the committee on this review."

There could, however, be some similarities with the approach taken by the Bush administration. The team's efforts, for example, would focus more on gathering intelligence than on assembling evidence suitable for use in a criminal trial.

In addition, the team would be asked to devise noncoercive procedures that may differ from the 19 permitted in the Army Field Manual, which include providing rewards for information and playing on a detainee's anxiety or other emotions. That document has emerged as a favored standard among many lawmakers and some human-rights groups.

Mr. Obama shut the network of secret CIA prisons on his second full day in office and launched two reviews -- one of interrogation practices and the other of the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The interrogation proposal, written by a Justice Department-led task force, is being finalized and neither review will be completed by a Tuesday deadline.

There is general support within the Obama administration for a professional interrogation team from multiple agencies, said one person familiar with the task force recommendations. The debate is over the details of how to do it: who should be in charge, where it should be housed within the government, and what its composition will be.

It isn't clear whether Congress would have any special oversight role beyond its regular duties.

A Justice spokesman referred questions to the White House. White House spokesman Benjamin LaBolt said the president hasn't yet reviewed the proposal.

The CIA's Mr. Gimigliano said the agency is working with its counterparts "to produce a solution that honors the law and helps our country obtain the intelligence it needs."

Pakistani Taliban Threatens Attack on White House

Just about a month ago the Taliban in Pakistan was allowed to rule the Swat Valley by Sharia law. The deal with supposed to be sharia in exchange for "peace". I guess that Obama and Hillary got this one wrong as they had backed the deal.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan – The commander of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility Tuesday for a deadly assault on a Pakistani police academy and said the group was planning a terrorist attack on the White House that would "amaze" the world.

Baitullah Mehsud, who has a $5 million bounty on his head from the U.S., said Monday's attack on the outskirts of the eastern city of Lahore was retaliation for U.S. missile strikes against militants along the Afghan border.

"Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world," Mehsud told The Associated Press by phone. He provided no details.

Mehsud has never been directly linked to any attacks outside Pakistan, but attacks blamed on his network of fighters have widened in scope and ambition in recent years. The threat comes days after President Barack Obama warned that al-Qaida is actively planning attacks on the United States from secret havens in Pakistan.

Pakistan's former government and the CIA named Mehsud as the prime suspect behind the December 2007 killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Pakistani officials accuse him of harboring foreign fighters, including Central Asians linked to al-Qaida, and of training suicide bombers.

In his latest comments, Mehsud identified the White House as one of the targets in an interview with local Dewa Radio, a copy of which was obtained by the AP.
In Washington, State Department spokesman Gordon Duguid said he had not seen any reports of Mehsud's comments but that he would "take the threat under consideration."
