IIA Tears Down Muslim Students Association Argument

Running rampant and spreading deception and hate across our college campuses is the Muslim Students Association. This past Friday their Western Michigan chapter gave a speech about Islam not promoting terrorism. So I figured that I would take the opportunity to tear down their argument. My responses are in the bold type.

Muslims: Islam not about terrorism

KALAMAZOO -- Islam does not promote terrorism, was the message delivered Friday by Western Michigan University's Muslim Students Association during a presentation on ``The Truth About Islam'' at the university's Bernhard Center.

It was a response to Tuesday's Miller Auditorium presentation by two self-proclaimed ex-terrorists.

The speakers at Tuesday's event, Kamal Saleem and Walid Shoebat, had a message of hate and racism, Friday's audience was told.

``They are trying to show that these (Muslims) who are living with them are someone you should hate,'' said Marwan Tabbara, adviser to the Muslim Students Association.

``As an institution, WMU should have not allowed this message'' to be spread in the university community.

Here they show us that they only believe in freedom of speech when it comes to them speaking.

Tabbara challenged the audience to find a passage in the Quran, the Islamic holy doctrine, which says people should commit acts of terror.

``This is an open challenge until the end of time,'' Tabbara said to a classroom-sized audience.

I guess today is the end of time because here it is.
Koran 008.012
YUSUFALI: Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

That sure sounds like a call to commit acts of terror to me. But hey that's just me.

Tabbara explained some of the basic aspects of the religion, including the origins of the word Islam, a word meaning complete, and that one cannot be a scholar in Arabic holy texts without ``piety, knowledge and experience.''

Tabbara said many translations of the Quran can be misleading, and that it can only be read in its true form in Arabic.

The Koran translation that I posted above was from Islamic scholar Yusuf Ali. Does the speaker know more about Islam than this scholar? Or is the speaker just not being honest with us?

``This book is comprehensive, meaning we have to take it as a whole,'' Tabbara said, holding a Quran.

He also explained that the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, had ``nothing to do with Islam,'' and that a jihad, or holy war started by Muslims on nonbelievers, is only acceptable in the Quran under self-defense or if a party is being oppressed, meaning not being allowed to practice their religion under state law.

Here Mr.Tabarra says that Muslims can wage war on us if they are not allowed to practice their religion under state law. Well technically they are not allowed to fully practice their religion. As many aspects of it go against our laws.

Like calling for the extortion of non-Muslims. Koran 009.029

YUSUFALI: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Another example of Islam not fitting in with our laws is that Islam allows up to four wives which is also illegal here. Koran 004.003

YUSUFALI: If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

A third example is that Islam calls for the death of those who leave Islam. I am pretty sure that murder is against the law here.

``I don't feel oppressed'' in America, said Tabbara, who is from Lebanon but has lived in the United States for more than 20 years.

For Muslims living in the United States, Tabbara said, Islam makes it a sin to not abide by rules and laws in this country.

This is just more double talk from Tabbara. Islam also calls for war when Muslims are oppressed, as he had stated earlier. Koran 008.039
YUSUFALI: And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily Allah doth see all that they do.

Once again, Muslims can easily state that they are being oppressed by our laws because they do not allow them to fully practice Islam.

Allah is not a vengeful God but one who wants people to treat others better than how they themselves have been treated, Tabbara said.

Allah is not vengeful to those that turn to Islam. But he sure is to those who do not turn to Islam. As he will either command his people to kill you. Koran 009.014
YUSUFALI: Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of Believers.

Or force you to live the rest of your life as a second class citizen under second class citizen under Islamic rule.

That last sentence from Tabbarra sounds like a complete con. In other words Muslims can show non-Muslims no respect at all and can walk all over us, but in return we should treat them with respect. No thanks.

``Allah loves people who excel in the way that they treat others,'' Tabbara said.

Does this include persecuting non-Muslims across the Islamic world?
