UAE:Two Europeans on Trial for Kissing in Public

Back in March the authorities in Dubai had stated that they were going to toughen up their laws to be more in accordance with Islam. Unfortunately the authorities in Abu Dhabi are on the same path. Like I have said in the past, the Islamic world is getting stricter and stricter.

Sharia law does not apply in kissing case, says lawyer
Marten Youssef, Courts and Justice Reporter

ABU DHABI // The defence lawyer for two Europeans who are accused of kissing in public and consuming alcohol told the court yesterday that his clients are not bound by the Sharia law that prohibits both offences.

IK, a Russian woman, is charged with consensual dishonour and pleaded guilty to kissing, at the first hearing last week at the Criminal Court of First Instance. The man she is accused of kissing, ZV, is facing adultery charges.

The two are among five people who are before the court facing charges of adultery, consumption of alcohol and drugs. The three men and two women have been denied bail and are awaiting a verdict in their case. It is not known how the five know one another.

IK told the court last week that the kiss was a “normal greeting kiss”, but the judge responded by saying: “Maybe it’s normal in Russia.”

The defence lawyer, Abdul Khader Ghazal, told the judge that the forensic evidence conducted by the Abu Dhabi Police Science Laboratory found alcohol in the blood sample of ZV.

“My client is charged with consuming alcohol but there is no such a charge of consuming alcohol under the Sharia law,” he said.

“We can establish that he was not drunk. As he is not Muslim, he is further not subject to the same rules we are subject to,” Mr Ghazal told the court. UAE law, however, prohibits residents from consuming alcohol, irrespective of religion or nationality, without a proper licence issued by each emirate’s police authority.

The lawyer also sought leniency because his client is believed to have consumed alcohol without the proper licence from Abu Dhabi Police.

Mr Ghazal said there were no witnesses for the adultery charges. Unless both the accused plead guilty, Sharia law requires four Muslim witnesses to testify in court.

The lawyer submitted evidence that the drugs found in the urine sample of one of his clients is from a prescribed medication purchased in Russia.

The case was postponed for the judicial panel to review the evidence submitted.

Obama OKs US Nuclear Energy Deal With UAE

While Dubai has tightened up their laws to conform more with Islamic customs, President Obama continues to fulfill his promise of reaching out to Muslims.
My question is why would he help the UAE advance with nuclear energy but not the country of which he is the president of?

Obama OKs US nuclear energy deal with UAE

WASHINGTON (Agencies)

American President Barack Obama on Thursday signed a civilian nuclear deal with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) worth potentially billions of dollars to U.S. energy companies, setting the stage for Congress to decide whether to block it.

"I have determined that the performance of the agreement will promote, and will not constitute an unreasonable risk to, the common defense and security," Obama said in a statement.

Supporters believe those concerns can be addressed. The UAE, by renouncing uranium enrichment and reprocessing of spent fuel, has made clear they have no intention of building a nuclear bomb, Sebright said.

His memorandum did not mention U.S. disquiet over a video of an Afghan merchant allegedly being beaten by a member of the UAE royal family, which raised human rights concerns in Congress.

Congressional decision

The administration of former President George W. Bush signed the pact with the wealthy Gulf state just days before leaving office in January.

The next step in the approval process for the civil nuclear deal is for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to formally submit it to the U.S. Congress. The pact would go into effect after 90 days unless lawmakers vote to block it.

"I expect now that the president has signed it will go to Congress pretty quickly," said Danny Sebright, president of the U.S.-UAE Business Council, which is planning a big push for approval of the deal. "We look forward to engaging Congress and answering any of their questions. We believe the agreement is rock solid and will stand on its merits."

Obama's decision to approve the deal comes just weeks before he plans to visit Egypt to fulfill a campaign promise to deliver a major speech to the Muslim world.

The UAE, which was the world's third largest oil exporter in 2007, is planning to build a number of nuclear reactors to meet an expected need for an additional 40,000 megawatts of electricity by 2017.

UAE:Member of Royal Family & Police Torture man~Video

Once again we see the true colors of our Islamic "allies" of the UAE. Back in March Dubai had tightened up its rules to conform with their Islamic culture. Now a video of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan of the UAE Royal Family and the police torturing a man has been smuggled out of the UAE. The Minister of the Interior who is the brother of Sheikh Issa's brother released a statement saying "all rules, policies and procedures were followed correctly by the Police Department." It is nice to know that cattle prods and boards with nails sticking out of them are procedure.

New Showdown After Dubai Blocks Israeli Player

This is a follow up to yesterday's story about a Jewish tennis not being allowed into Dubai to play in the Dubai Tennis Championship.

New Showdown After Dubai Blocks Israeli Player
AP
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Organizers of a women's tennis tournament said Tuesday that security fears were behind the decision to bar an Israeli player — a move that could force another showdown when the men's play begins next week.

The snub brought swift denunciations from the Women's Tennis Association and warnings that it could consider scratching Dubai from its calendar. The Tennis Channel canceled plans to televise the championships in protest.

Tuesday's statement by the Dubai Tennis Championships — citing fan anger at Israeli's recent incursions into the Gaza Strip — was the first detailed explanation of the last-minute visa denial for Shahar Peer, who qualified as the 48th-ranked player in the world. Monday's WTA rankings listed her 45th.

But Dubai, which is trying to become a showcase for world-class sports, is coming under increasing pressure with the men's field as Israeli doubles specialist Andy Ram hopes to be in the draw on Sunday.

Women's Tennis Association Caves to Islamic Hate

The Women's Tennis Association has caved to the Islamic hatred of Israelis (Jews) and will continue to play in the Dubai Tennis Championship. This despite the fact that the UAE will not allow Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer into Dubai to play. This is just another business decision that caves and caters to Islam.

Statement from Larry Scott Re: Peer Visa Denial

Statement from Larry Scott, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, regarding the United Arab Emirates' decision to deny a Visa to Israeli Tour Professional Shahar Peer to play in the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships.

We are deeply disappointed by the decision of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) denying Shahar Peer a Visa that would permit her to enter the country to play in the Dubai Tennis Championships. Ms. Peer has earned the right to play in the tournament and it is regrettable that the UAE is denying her this right.

Following various consultations, the Tour has decided to allow the tournament to continue to be played this week, pending further review by the Tour's Board of Directors. Ms. Peer and her family are obviously extremely upset and are disappointed by the decision of the UAE and its impact on her personally and professionally, and the Tour is reviewing appropriate remedies for Ms. Peer and also will review appropriate future actions with regard to the future of the Dubai tournament. The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour believes very strongly, and has a clear rule and policy, that no host country should deny a player the right to compete at a tournament for which she has qualified by ranking.
